Refresh Baltimore - Oct 8th
I finally got around to making it to a Refresh Baltimore event on this past Wednesday. It worked out nicely because we had off for school on Thursday for Yom Kippur so there was no rush to get back home. With me, aside from my wife (I clubbed her and made her go) was Zac Gordon web design teacher of Springbrook High School. Incidentally, we also got a chance to eat a nice meal with some friends in Baltimore that we don’t get to see that often so great time all around. Now my wife on the other hand probably would not agree.
If you’re the type of person that would rather see the presentation that hear my words about it you can watch it thanks to Mr. Gordon who videotaped the event. So a big…
Interview with Jonathan Snook
Jonathan Snook is a pioneer. He is a well known PHP developer; it should be said that he does much more than that though. You have probably read one of his blog articles before, maybe this one, or this cool mini-app he developed on his popular website http://snook.ca. Using his blog he gained some notoriety in the subjects of PHP, CakePHP, JQuery, Adobe Air, CSS, and Design.
He has also co-authored a few books about Javascript and CSS. Aside from his astute technical skill he also shows business savvy by creating campaign networks, joining great minds of web design and development to create Sidebar Creative, and…
How to Submit an Absentee Ballot
Both myself and my students are attending FOWD 2008 in New York City, NY. It is no small ride at about 4.5 hours each way so there is no way we will be able to make it to the voting booths that day, read more about our trip. I have never voted absentee before and to be honest it kinda scares me. I want to be sure I do everything right so that my vote is counted in the election, but especially for this election in these tumultuous times.
What is an absentee ballot?
When you register to vote you are allotted to a voting location, usually its decided by your home address. When you vote (in any election) you are required to visit that location to vote. This is in order to make it easier for counting, planning, and implementing…
I Want a New Site Design
I spent a lot of time working on my current site design. I finished it right before summer began this past season. I came back to it within about 2 weeks of school starting again frantically polishing it off and transferring it into Expression Engine. When I came back to it it looked very flat and boring to me so I added the gray doodle that now appears on the right exterior, the pattern in the featured section, and the footer logo on the left. After those few spruce ups I was happy enough with the design to use it.
Originally, I created a design which was more obviously an education focused site. As you can imagine it fed all the cliche education imaging such as chalkboards, desks, pencils, etc. I started the design, bounced the concept off of my students and later became un-inspired. I gave up the…
